An information website dedicated to our efforts in regaining land governance through our proposed Land Code Read more

Why develop a Land Code?
Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation (SXFN) is a signatory to the Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management. Being a signatory offers an opportunity for our community to pursue our inherent right to self-govern our reserve lands by adopting our own Land Code.
To date, 127 First Nations, many of which are in British Columbia, have established land codes through this Framework Agreement to remove Canada and its Indian Act from having any management authority over First Nation lands. Another 100+ First Nations are working toward the same goal!
Our Land Code will only be approved if our members want it. Please take the time to learn about how we can regain control over our reserve lands through the development and community approval by vote of our own land law authority - the Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation Land Code.

We have developed this website to help communicate the benefits and considerations of establishing our own Land Law (Land Code), provide information on the lands it will apply to, explain the Stswecem’c Xget’tem Community Ratification (Voting) Process, and help answer any questions that our members may have on the proposed Stswecem’c Xget’tem Land Code.
